Success!
Success! I am not a domestic disaster. I'm not a lost cause when it comes to apple pie. We went apple picking on Saturday, collecting at least 30 pounds of Cortlands and Red Maxes. Then Saturday afternoon I pealed, cored, dusted, and baked my way to a mostly successful apple pie. I used the collected wisdom gathered on Friday and used one of Martha's recipe and made it my own. I think I had pie for lunch, dinner and breakfast this weekend. It was delicious! Of course it wasn't pretty, and the crust was a little heavy on top. And I probably will remember to use lemon juice next time and not so much flour. But, it was fun!
By the way, this is Susie and I trying to decide if the apples we were picking were Cortlands or MacIntoshes. We ended up deciding that the MacIntoshes were just a figment of our imagination and the signs were lying to us and they really didn't have MacIntoshes anywhere in the orchard.

Yay!!! I am so happy that your apple pie turned out! I am going to surprise Nathaniel tonight with apple pie for dessert :) Then tons and tons of canning needs to be done. I love that picture of us and our looks of concentration :) What a glorious day it was.
mmm. send me some of that pie girl!!! Looks like you had a wonderful weekend :)
Yum!! Sounds like a very lovely weekend was had by you and your tummy! (So happy to finally be able to catch up with you on my lunch hour!)
yay! there's nothing like a good 'ole apple pie, especially when it's warm.
I could really handle apple pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner :) YUMMMMM!
well done on your pie, it sounds delicious! Looks like you had great weather for apple picking
: )
Congratulations!! Hugs all around :) I haven't mastered the pie but I can make a mean crumble!!
now i want to bake an apple pie!
OOh how fun. I have yet to attempt a pie on my own.
I love the picture and your description of what was going on-LOL. We're heading up to our own "Apple Hill" in a couple of weeks and you may have just inspired me to try making a pie myself.
That's awesome!! Such fun!! I love this picture of you and your friend contemplating the apples. Hilarious!:)
Thanks for the recipe! I have been wanting to make an apple pie as soon as the weather cools off so I think I will try Martha's too! :)
Hey Girl!!
I'd eat your apple pie any day!! Love the pics, and I've missed blogland and your blog for too long! Hope your doing well! By the looks of it, it looks like you are!
You guys look so pensive - that's hilarious!
Congrats on the successful baking of your pie.. and apple pie definitely makes for three square meals, i'm so jealous!
(and for the record, it's not supposed to look pretty. the more chunky and unpolished, the more rustic and delicious it becomes! it's a well-known fact.)
I was kidding when I asked you about baking an apple pie from scratch, but there you were really making it happen!!! I wish I could have been there to share a slice with you. Look out Martha!
That certainly sounds like my kind of diet!!!! Yum.
Apples aren't quite ready here but I can't wait.
Wow - sounds and looks like a great time. I am craving some apple picking!
did you happen to save me a piece? of course you did! thanks so much! xxoo

My daughter went with a friend today and she came back with an enormous bag! They are so crisp and tasty! Note to self; Make PIE!

the last time i "try" to bake an apple pie must be 5 years ago. let's just say every one discourages me from doing so again.
oh Julia, i've missed so much here!!! sorry, just very busy with new work but managed to start a fresh blog as my other one was giving me lots of technical grief!

I love that you picked the apples yourself and then made this pie. Looks delish!
