Success!

Success! I am not a domestic disaster. I'm not a lost cause when it comes to apple pie. We went apple picking on Saturday, collecting at least 30 pounds of Cortlands and Red Maxes. Then Saturday afternoon I pealed, cored, dusted, and baked my way to a mostly successful apple pie. I used the collected wisdom gathered on Friday and used one of Martha's recipe and made it my own. I think I had pie for lunch, dinner and breakfast this weekend. It was delicious! Of course it wasn't pretty, and the crust was a little heavy on top. And I probably will remember to use lemon juice next time and not so much flour. But, it was fun!

By the way, this is Susie and I trying to decide if the apples we were picking were Cortlands or MacIntoshes. We ended up deciding that the MacIntoshes were just a figment of our imagination and the signs were lying to us and they really didn't have MacIntoshes anywhere in the orchard.

Yay!!! I am so happy that your apple pie turned out! I am going to surprise Nathaniel tonight with apple pie for dessert :) Then tons and tons of canning needs to be done. I love that picture of us and our looks of concentration :) What a glorious day it was.

OOh how fun. I have yet to attempt a pie on my own.

I love the picture and your description of what was going on-LOL. We're heading up to our own "Apple Hill" in a couple of weeks and you may have just inspired me to try making a pie myself.

You guys look so pensive - that's hilarious!

Congrats on the successful baking of your pie.. and apple pie definitely makes for three square meals, i'm so jealous!

(and for the record, it's not supposed to look pretty. the more chunky and unpolished, the more rustic and delicious it becomes! it's a well-known fact.)

I was kidding when I asked you about baking an apple pie from scratch, but there you were really making it happen!!! I wish I could have been there to share a slice with you. Look out Martha!

the last time i "try" to bake an apple pie must be 5 years ago. let's just say every one discourages me from doing so again.
