Some day studio

While home over the holiday I saw an article on creating clever home offices in one of Martha's magazines (Spring '08). Thumbing through the glossy pages I couldn't help but thrill at the cozy nooks--they're organizational heaven. Of course, I'm drooling over the enclosed pink studio (top). How fun would that be? Given the small size of our apartment the need for organization is vital. I still create a gigantic mess every time I pull out my supplies to make a book, but maybe I can find a way to store it all so it's easier to locate items and then have spaces to hide it all after I'm done. The some-day studio will have wide, shallow shelving units for the flat sheets of paper and board, there will be rows of silk ribbon, jars filled with buttons, large cannisters for paper scraps and a bookshelf for storing the final creations. There will be lots of bright white paint and soft pink and green accents. And inevitably a few pots of ivy that have been relocated to the studio so the living room doesn't look like a "green house!"

What will yours look like?

That pink studio is making me drool with jealousy! My current "studio" is half of an Ikea work top with a bit of shelving underneath. I'm hoping to add an old letterpress box to hang on the wall to organize my bits and bobs but someday I'd love to have something like those pictures.

I am in the process of designing a roll-away studio/dining table with storage drawers and a storage nook/buffet that rolls underneath it. I will be making it myself with the help of the good people @ Home Depot.

i'd happily take any of those wonderful studios, including the one you've described. my ideal studio would have lots of natural light and only be used as a studio. no guest bedroom, etc. have a very happy new year!

As much as I wish I could keep it all contained, my mess escapes me and I found myself using 2 desks in different rooms (!) to make one little handmade booklet. I am slowly putting together my work-room and one some day it will be ready to share. But thank you for the inspiration--a girl can dream...

Julia! You need to come to my house and design my new home office. Ugh! What a dilemma I am having! I will have to go to the library and find that issue of Martha for some ideas. Hope all is well and wishing you and Andrew a happy new year!

Oh, some-day a studio or a space of my own would be so nice. I do tend to pile things up and it annoys my dear sweet husband. I do have things fairly organized - ribbons in one box, pens in one, paper in one which makes finding things so easy. My news years space will be cleaned and ready once I am back at the drawing board!

If you can describe your some-day studio that well, it may just really be a matter of time before you can realize it. =)

I like the one in light/yellow-green (is that the color? hehe).

Happy new year, Jewels (I like this spelling better than my original Jules)! =)

These offices look amazing! I just got a Martha Stewart organizing book for Christmas and oh my gosh! Everything looks so clean and organized and perfect. I can't wait to see what you take away from these other desks! Happy New Year!!

Have you ever read the blog called Diary of a Self-Portrait? You can find it on my blogroll. Jessie documents the process of her finding a place that she dreams to become her studio and then actually makes it happen! It is inspiring.
