Friday Favorites

one: green orchids by dkdesignshawaii
two: yellow and white pleated bag from daphnenen
three: caribbean fabric scarf from beautifulbridget
four: pastel bird illustrations by euphorianchic

I found out yesterday that I can't make grilled cheese. I know, I'm a culinary flop. I pulled out the bread, the cheese, the butter. Put the pan on the stove and set it on medium heat. Covered one slice of bread with butter, slid a slice of Provelone on top of that, stuck it on the pan, put a lid over that, and... promptly forgot about it in a flurry of Etsying (kids, don't do this at home). Well, I hurried out to the kitchen the moment I smelled smoke. But, I wasn't fast enough. I had every smoke detector in the apartment going off (there are three, by the way). The bread was a piece of char with molted orange goo oozing off it. The lid was almost cemented to the pan. Not good, not good. I will be living off of yogurt, cheese and lettuce till Andrew comes home.

loving the scarf and bag. even together! you've got great style!

yum, grilled cheese with provolone. i never thought to use that cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich. i always use cheddar. i love provolone, so this is something i'm gonna have to try. hopefully i won't burn mine too—that's something i would do. :)

have a fabulous weekend, julia!

Good excuse to go out.

Sometime... check out Alchemy, off Atwood and Winnebago. They have a stuffed pesto grilled cheese that Nate has dreams about.

I've found that when cooking stay in the kitchen. Otherwise I totally get sidetracked as well!

Haha, that sucks! I blame Etsying for a lot of my absent-mindedness too.

I completely understand your pain here.. Love those finds though!

That is too funny! I've done something similar a time or two...

That's my biggest issue too... Too much multi-tasking... It can be hazardous. Definitely give the grill cheese making another chance. They are too good to swear off!

Once, I nearly set the kitchen on fire trying to make Ramen noodles...I feel your pain.

The men in my family all live off grilled cheese, luckily they are experts on making them too, so I don't have to. Love that yellow bag. Happy weekend!

I laughed when I read this, but seriously Jewels, be careful! You're too good a blogger to lose.
On the other hand, I've destroyed some food myself while messing around on the wonderful world wide web. Time thief, they say...
Have a lovely weekend - love photo no. 1, since I'm in a bit of a flower mood these days.

I love the yellow purse, very cute!

I can't make pancakes, I make the mix just fine but I'm a flop when it comes to flipping them, they get all folded and I flip too early, too late, it's just gross. My husband is the offical pancake chef in our house.

If I had a dollar for every time I've burned a grilled sandwich, I would be a rich woman indeed! i second caroline's suggestion of putting on the timer--when i do that i only burn things about half the time!

b always makes my grilled cheese because that sounds exactly like something i would do!

Oh, I dunno Miss Otter...I remember a fantastic cheese and bread meal you made when we were at Tettegouche (with your homemade bread). I have since remade it many many times because I loved it so much. Of course we didn't have internet though and that does make a difference (: If I could do that trip over again, I would. Here's to snowy cabins and the many years ahead to try again.
