Self Portrait: (Into) the Fray

This beautiful, thoughtful and inspiring woman is the author and creator of today's Self Portrait. I know you will enjoy! Thank you Ambika from (Into) the Fray!

I knew exactly what I wanted to include in my portrait. While the typewriter was a recent acquisition, as someone who loves writing, it's an item I've coveted for a very long time. It's also a testament to how much more settled my life has become since I first shoved that 5 Euro note in my wallet years ago. When I initially returned from Prague, I didn't intend to stay home for long. For at least a year or so, I thought I'd soon be in a position to spend it. Five years later, the money remains in my wallet as a reminder of that amazing time--at this point, my hope is that when I take my boyfriend to see the Czech Republic, I'll spend it then. The necklace was a gift from my boyfriend, a reminder of our very first vacation together in Belize where we snorkeled with sting rays, sharks and any number of other reef creatures. The thimble and feathered headband are two sides of the same coin, my love of pretty things, whether made by me or someone else. & I have always loved art and have never been able to part with the Schiele postcard I picked up in Cesky Krumlov years ago.

With so many 'erin's commenting, I thought it must be a sign. I, too, love this idea and this was gorgeous. It's got me thinking about what I would put into my own self-portrait.

This type of Self Portrait is a genius idea! It describes the person, the core of who they are, in a non-obvious way. I love it!
