I discovered a few things while riding solo this weekend:
1. I sleep at an angle in our queen size bed unless I bolster myself with pillows
2. I eat chippies for dinner regardless of the salad in the fridge
3. I go for two hour long walks without a care
4. I get lonely at dusk, just when the sun hits the trees and the world suddenly gets quiet
All of which makes me wonder what this summer is going to be like when Andrew's doing his law school internship. Riding solo all summer. I may have to pick up gardening!

i find that it's nice sometimes to do your own thing. take up the whole bed, sleep diagonal, eat whatever you'd like for dinner.
you know? sometimes it's kind of nice to miss someone.
I wish sometimes i rode solo...not for long though..i know i would miss my boys shortly after.
Hey, we can meet up more often this summer:)
yes gardening and getting outside is the best!
Sometimes it is ok. My husband is a Truck driver and gone a lot. It gets to be lonly at time, but I guess you find things to fill the time. Having a garden would be a fun thing to do for the summer. :)
sometimes i sleep at a diagonal even when scott is there. he loves it - not! what if you take a class at night?
It's nice to discover some new things about yourself...I am the same, exact way when that sunset hits.
Being solo is a strange thing - i think it takes practise though! gardening is cool...! x
sometimes it's a good thing to be by yourself...
though i easily miss my husband when he's gone even just for several days ;)
I agree: I think being alone does take practice. At least preparation. I always find that I don't prioritize and do the strangest things.
Very sweet solo. My dear husband was in graduate school when we were first married and many a weekends were spent solo - and I look back and savour those memories. Wear a wig and dark glasses and go under-cover!

Who knew I was channeling your need for gardening this morning!
i feel lonely & a little sad at dusk too, even when i'm with someone!
You'll settle into your routine! My guy is gone most of the time, because he's in an incredibly demanding school program and he takes lots of related trips. I find that I have to re-adjust to having him around during the summer!
I spend quite a bit of time out at our farm alone. You guys keep me company!
I find I get so much done having solo time, and we got a little pup to keep me company when Stu is away. Pottering in the garden is a great way to pass time, so is surfing!
uh huh - dusk is the hardest. That and eating alone I find depressing. Stock up on lots of cereal and movies for the evenings. I always get super excited if I've got a good movie to look forward to.
Gardening could be fun. I'm not a gardener but I hear from friends who love it. The whole summer he will be gone? Is there any way for you to visit go and visit?
Awwwww... I get lonely at dusk too when my man is gone... I'm always fine during the day but something about the quietness at night kills me! ;)
Isn't it funny what we do after living so long with someone else? A whole summer is a long time! But I'm hoping they'll be breaks in between?
That gorgeous turquoise plate caddy is hurting my heart :)
ok, this is going to sound really silly, but what are chippies (maybe I can blame my ignorance on the european heritag...) I recommend gardening too, but it can be addictive. cheers.
Riding solo can be a time of growth and spontaneity. My husband travels some for work and I have had to take care of a few things along the way that were usually left to him. I also dive into creative mode when I'm alone. And the return...ever so sweet!
What a nice blog entry. I think its sometimes easy to forget how we are on our own...I know I do. I also sympathize with your "what to be when I grow up" sentiments. One day, we'll know...I'm bettin on it!
Cheers from Milwaukee,
Michelle
wow, all summer! I am sure you will do fine though. Oh, and that tile is quite stunning.
Completely know what you mean, although it's been ages since I've missed someone like that -- luckily, we're inseparable these days.
Don't worry -- although it's not the same, you'll always have us :)
You'll surely find a lot of new and different things to do by yourself! I don't like to be alone at night either. But sometimes it's nice to have the whole bed for you!
xoxo
Your always welcome in Duluth! Summer's here are beautiful!
ps. I love those plush whales below!
Wonderful images! I always take up the whole bed when Eric stays up really late. I sleep diagonal, like you. It's just so comfortable!
I'm sorry you'll be solo all summer. Gardening is something you should take up! Especially growing food. It's amazing to eat something you grew from seed or seedling.
I'm riding solo this weekend. Well, I'll still have my toddler, but the other half of he fam will be gone. A tiny bit of me is looking forward to the quiet evenings, but most of me is already missing them.
oh but it will be so lovely when you meet up. its good to ride solo for a while x
I envy your long walks, Jewels!
You get sad at dusk? Hmm, that's Anne Shirley's fave part of day. ;)
