Patriotism

I brought in cupcakes for the special day, not nearly as cute as Rachel's, but still yummy and festive. What an incredible day! I listened to his speech and couldn't help but feel a remarkable sense of patriotism. Patriotism! For the past eight years I considered "patriotism" a sad word, something that involved hate, an "us and them" type of attitude. Today I feel like rising to the challenge and asking what I can do for my country. We have the chance to redefine "patriotism," and nothing gives me more goosebumps!

Beautiful words.
I just love the vibration that is buzzing throughout this country.
The shift in people'e desire to roll up their sleeves and do their part instead of shrugging their shoulders helplessly is almost too good to be true...almost :)

Me too - I feel like painting the town red white and blue or doing something like rolling up my sleeves and helping to make America the brightest and best possible. Oh, I did not even read the comment before-
I think great things will happen. :)

Oh yes. It was such a crazy feeling, suddenly starting to feel hopeful and patriotic. I don't know how long it's been since I've even said the word "patriotic", but today I'm feeling it.

I love that we're both feeling the cupcakes today!

it's unbelieveable the difference in attitude that this one man has made. you can feel it up in canada.

i think we're a little jealous, even, of the intense wave of patriotism that is sweeping your nation.

canada's in love with obama too!

Me too!! My hubby and I were saying the same thing. I don't know that I've ever truly felt patriotic before. How refreshing to hear our leader talk about possibilities rather than limitations.

what a beautiful way to put it. i couldn't find my own words, so i'll probably post tomorrow... i know, totally lame. i totally agree with your sentiment of thinking of patriotism as being bad. i picture cowboy hats and mean faces and freedom fries. let's bring a new patriotism to america.

I know, I know...I've had goose bumps all day today. Every time I turn on the TV, they come back. Isn't it wonderful to feel hopeful again? And what a simple concept...let's all chip in and do our part. Why did it take us so long to figure this out? I suppose we needed someone to inspire us.

Happy, happy day indeed!

Congratulations America! I'm not American, but I'm still very excited to see what the president can do for your country and for the world. A huge task...

I've also linked back to you in today's post=)

Could not agree more. I am rolling up my sleeves, ready to go. Thanks for posting the portrait, I realized I forgot to include something by my husband... I do love him very much too.

It was very strange to me to realize the feeling I was having all day long was pride.
