Not much

Did you see that flash, that blur? Yeah, that was my weekend zipping by. So long, bye, bye, it was fun! Andrew and I did a whole lot of not much (definition: languid lounging). It was great! I made books, took myself on a few long walks, went and saw Valkyrie (did I spell it right this time, Andrew?), ate pizza and tons of bread sticks. I also did some camera research. I discovered that I know little about the kind of camera I really need, one that takes great indoor shots. Any suggestions? Oh, and the movie... it was "good." I say good because I think I would have preferred a documentary *gasp*. The film showed us the basics of how it happened and when, but there was no character development whatsoever, so when the drama started unfolding you couldn't quite get involved because you didn't care. How about your weekends? Did you guys get anything crossed off your list?

Love love love those delicious looking pastries--yum! I recently read a little tutorial on making a diy light box on the cheap (out of a box)--it really makes indoor photos look amazing. I bet if you google it you can find it and may not need a fancy camera after all :)

p.s. did you ever receive your jeans Julia?

I've also been looking for a good indoor type of DSLR camera. I have no $$, but one can dream right? Please let us know what you find out and decide!

I wish my weekend looked a bit like these pictures, although it was nice in its own right. These are just so beautiful.
I have a Nikon D40 and love it, but I am a camera novice and sometimes have trouble figuring things out.

my weekend went by in a blur too, I wish I had spent it lounging with pizza and breadsticks!

we did a whole lot of nothing! I read majority of the weekend and got caught up on my freelance work :) Good luck with the camera....

Great photos. I felt the same about the movie, not to mention I'm not really a Tom Cruise fan.

i forgot what i was supposed to do ;). yours sounds like it was great and i really love those photos, especially the top one.

for your camera, see here

i might have gotten the canon, but my brother insisted i get a nikon so we can share lenses - he has several. i chose the d60 because it's on the small side and i wanted the vr lense.

My weekend was a lot like yours..a lot of lounging. I did however manage to get a couple of new products completed and even got them photographed...although the lighting really wasn't great.
I just purchased the Nikon d60 and love it. Can't say enough about it! I too wanted to take indoor pictures and think this one is a great camera. I might need to get me a macro lens though. But for now, I am happy with what i've got.

Good luck with the camera search..It took me a while to decide on something.

here's another site: http://www.dpreview.com/. search for your camera and if they have a review, go right to the conclusion page. good luck - it gets really confusing and the differences might be minor for novices like us.

lots of lounging here too but felt quite unproductive rather than relaxing. all trying to get back into schedules so the lull felt heavy. wish i would've enjoyed it. perhaps if i'd had those gorgeous shots to gaze at...needing to find my 'chill' mantra.

i lu-lu-looove documentaries. love. not like. love. i've recently downloaded one called 'flow', about the commodification of water. looks super interesting - if you're into that kind of stuff. which i am. so i guess it all works out in the end, huh?

cameras - if you're looking for one that takes decent pics inside, you're going to want one that has the adjustment for indoor/outdoor/tungsten/flourescent/shade lighting. (there's a shorter name for this but i cant remember it right now...) mike's cam is a canon rebel xsi and it's got that, along with a white balance feature (which allows you to "show" your cam what's white in your indoor lighting, which enables it to make the necessary adjustments around all the other colours...) which is pretty sweet.

there's techie terms for all of this but it's late and i'm not feelin too great. also, keep in mind that it's not the camera or the lens that helps with good indoor pics, it's the flash. i just bought mike the canon speedlite 430II flash (amazon.com has them for about $200) for christmas, and it's pretty great because it's got the adjustable head so that you dont have to aim the flash right at the subject - you can bounce it off walls and stuff, which eliminates glare in the pics (and means that you're not totally dependent on a lightbox, even though they can be super helpful...)

... too long for a comment? ;)email me and i can tell you a bit more of the research i've found - i'm lookin to buy a camera as well.

Your weekend sounds lovely! I just recently purchased a camera and before I chose which one I wanted I took a camera quiz. I can't find the website now of the one I went to but I found this one that might help you. http://cameras.about.com/library/weekly/blcameraquiz.htm

Did not get nearly as much crossed off my list as I had hoped. But caught up on some R & R. I, too, was saving for a new DSLR, but after the holiday bills arrived, I'm back to dreaming about one again. :) Many of the photographers whom I admire on flickr seem to have different variations of the Canon rebel.

Beautiful photos!!!

P.S. Have you seen Milk? I thought it was really good...sad, but good.

Good luck with the camera search. I wish I could say I knew....I take most if not all outdoors!

Lovely photos :)

These have to be the most calming and relaxing photos ever. And the fact that they have sweets is icing on the cake!

Camera shopping is so nerve racking -- can't wait to see what you decide on!

Very few things crossed off the list, but so much fun lounging with charming company :)

Hope your week is going well so far, Julia!

These are absolutely beautiful photos, Julia! I did a lot of preparing for school and just general maintenance and the like. I really loved my Canon Rebel. I had the xTi, but I don't know what models are out now. It was great with low light (indoors). And it's a decent price.
