Good morning! I think one of the reasons I'm in love with images of people's homes and creative spaces is that the cluttered messes become works of art. It gives me hope. Maybe if you took a really excellent shot of my extremely horrific craft closet, someone would think it was "neat!"

I think you need to do that! A picture of your closet. I just have a feeling it would be a work of art to someone else. step back friend, and do it!
one person's trash is anothers treasure, right? (not saying that your craft closet is trash, not at all!)
i think it's got something to do with the fact that it's not *your* mess. you don't have to look at it everyday, wondering how you can rearrange it to make it look more organized. when it's disorganized in photos, you can look at it and move on with your otherwise tidy(ish) life, and partake in the peeling wallpaper as a quick escape whenever you feel like you need some controlled chaos.
(tomorrow, dr. freud psychoanalyzes the cultural obsession with little ceramic owls...)

I always wonder about this too! Other people's messes seem artistic, whereas mine just seems lazy.
