Friday Favorites

one: Fern sachets from lottahelleberg
two: Two barn owls by hadleyhutton
three: piquant blanc from labokoff
four: A story book necklace by whiletheplay

The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown.
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I'll put a trinket on.

A poem from Emily Dickinson on the subject of autumn. It's Friday and again I'm relieved. It was a short week, but for some reason it feels like it's been a full-fledged, jam-packed, squish-me-with-responsibilities type of week. Andrew's been wading through his first week back to school, his second year of law school, so it's been a very full week for our little family. Some transitions can be delightful and beautiful, like the transition from summer into fall, but often transitions are coupled with a bit of angst and discomfort. Strrrrretchhhhhhh. Can you feel it? For all of you who are going through moments of stretching right now, I wish you a beautifully relaxing weekend, full of recouping and enjoyment!

XOXO

great post, jewels!

that piquant blanc print is SO great... it reminds me of dusty books hidden away in an old old house, tucked quietly into a grove of trees.

(dunno why.. it just does!)

i love these, especially the owls. the colors are fab and so fall. it's going to be weird going away while it's still "summer" and coming back to "autumn." there are things i love about fall, but summer is my favorite. i'll miss feeling my hair brush against bare shoulders, driving with the windows down, flip flops, and thunderstorms. *sigh*

I recognized that poem right away, it was always a favorite. And I know what you mean about the short week -- I feel like I had 6 days worth of work crammed into 4 days. The aftermath is almost not worth having the 3-day weekend.

PS - love those owlies!

I don't know how I got to your blog but I'm sure glad I found it! It was a nice read and kept me very entertained - and I love Door County! We used to live in Shoreview, MN - we used to visit Door County every summer - those were good times! Thanks for the read! Nan
