Autumn Rain

Today I walked into work with a soft autumn rain sprinkling on my umbrella. I don't understand how it happens, but when it rains, soft and sweet, a divine scent rises from the earth and sidewalks. It smells like Fall. Or it smells "refreshed." Or it smells "sweet and earthy." Or maybe you can just nod your head in understanding :) I searched through all sorts of images to find ones that expressed such an autumnal rain and I found Kirstie Cohen. These are the magical landscapes of Scotland in the fall. Perfect!

Andrew and I are slowly getting geared up for a trip out east next week. It's part business, part research, and part pleasure. Well, I should say most of it is pleasure, regardless of the reason we're traveling there, being in New England is divine. We'll be in the northern reaches, near Manchester, NH and Portsmouth. Does anyone have any special spots near there I should definitely check out?

Beautiful pics, Jewels, and I love how you've described that softly humid aroma from a soft rain.

I have never been to New England. I'm jealous of all your travels!

Happy Thursday!

What a lovely post. I know exactly the scent you're describing and it's one of my favorites. Rivaled only by the distinctive smell of SNOW. Mmm. Amazing images, too. So intense and expressive. Happy Fall!

If you have a chance, check out the tiny art show at Nahcotta (and there's one at Three Graces Gallery as well, both in Portsmouth!) Have a wonderful trip, darling!

Nodding over here...those paintings are perfect! Please send some of your cooler Fall weather this way if you have a moment. :)

I have visited many, many places but never New England in the Fall. It's definitely on my wish list of "things to do...". I can't wait to hear about your N.E. adventure.

i've never been to new england, but would love to go sometime.. there's a work-related conference in boston at the end of october but i've a sneaky suspicion that i'm not going to it (y'know, considering how it's september and i haven't been given the green light...)

guess i'm just going to have to pay my own way to go. lemme know what recommendations you have and i'll just follow your lead!

I remember that magical smell :) Here... it gets pretty rank and all of the wet pigeons resemble scraggly gremlins...

Oh! You must tell me your dates you'll be over here. I would love to take a languid trade to some upper town and meet for a tea!
