Little somethings

Have you found that your personal blog entries seem to attract the most comments? Do you find that being "real" brings about the most discussion? Does intimacy really happen in blogland? Does the idea of sharing the ups and downs scare you?

I know that I personally love it when a blog author opens up to us, the readers. I loved it when Diana asked about blog rules. I felt an immediate connection with Fiona with her process of getting back into meditation. And I couldn't help but go "YES! I completely understand!" when Leah opened up about her journey with "the darker moods." I feel like Meg Ryan's character in You've Got Mail "I just wanted to let you know, that these 'somethings' (letters/emails) mean a lot to me." My correspondence with you, here, with each entry, means a lot to me. Just wanted to let you know.

I'll be heading out early tomorrow afternoon for our Petoskey trip, so I'm posting my Friday Favorites this morning :)

Julia, I love it when I read personal items on peoples blogs. It's funny: I hesitate to do it on my blog because I fear I will bore the pants off people. Those entries are usually the ones I get the best response from...And! Thank you so much for having a little byrd item as one of your Friday picks! I can't beleive it! I always love what you pick so I am incredibly flattered. Have a wonderful weekend away.

It's really interesting you should say that. I do find that personal posts get the most feedback... I've only had a few personal posts so far though :) Can't believe it's already Thursday afternoon. Have a great trip.

yeah, i think so too. though i don't know if it caters to 2 kinds of readers: one that is just looking for "inspiration" and one that wants to connect and share. i think i have a mix of both. for me i would prefer the latter, which i have found with you :) i think it makes the readership more special...at least to me. it's less cold.

i have a personal blog that i share with a few close friends in lj (as it allows for "friends only" entries. but for this one, i do post a few, but not too much. i get a bit paranoid, and i'm even wondering if i should display my photo even.

but in terms of what i do like to read, i do like reading personal stuff too. it's the discussion and connection aspect that i'm attracted to the most. i mean, stuff is stuff. but the people who post the "stuff" are what make the posts unique.

I suppose we all want to connect... and blogs can be a fine way to do that!

mmm... great post jewels! i'm back from my trip now and have missed the blogosphere!

i have to agree that the most 'real' posts make me feel the most connected to bloggers.. take jennifer jeffrey's blog (http://jenniferjeffrey.typepad.com/), for example. it's not all just sugar and spice - there's some dark clouds in there too. well-written dark clouds, but they're there nonetheless. they make me feel like i'm corresponding with a real person instead of a sugar-frosted cookie cutter happy blog.

or maybe i'm just dark and twisty. who knows. regardless, i'm a fan of the personal posts. :)

hope you have an awesome trip! xo

I agree, I love when people share themselves with me. However, I am hesitant and freaked out to do the same with others? Weird...I guess I am saying you should share, share, share away and I will be here to listen, but I don't want to bore you with my boring details...have a lovely trip deary!

Julia,

Great post! I think people are more attracted to great images rather than a post without any. Any time i would right about something personal it doesn't seem to attract as many reader....perhaps my stories are boring.

Have a great weekend!

Very interesting post. I enjoy readin some personal stuff in posts as I seem to get to know the author of the blog alot better. I though hesitate to do it on my own blog as I think it will be very boring for others to read. Although my husband says those are his favorites...go figure!

I found your blog via inleaf.
