By the sea

These fabulous images are from an article titled Kaleidoscope by the sea in the Traditional Home magazine. Isn' that a yummy title? Well, I think so :) I'm perpetually drawn to large bodies of water. I would say that I'm drawn to the sea, because it sounds more romantic, but the truth is that I've never lived even remotely close to the sea. I have lived close to at least three Great Lakes and other sizable bodies of water. I'm sure I've talked about it before, but there's something very soothing and reassuring about these lakes. They are ever comforting in their changefulness and beauty. I lived on the shores of Lake Superior two years ago, in a lovely apartment a mere mile from a path that led to a small, often deserted, patch of shoreline. I would make my way there every morning during the summer months just to sit on a huge bolder and listen to the water. I'm determined, quite determined, to find a place close to water when we start looking for a more permanent residency (as in a house). Maybe we'll even find a spot on the sea. Happy thought!

Oh, and on a side note, as I haven't mentioned my Fourth yet, our weekend down in Kansas City was... very full. Full of family (lots of family), full of moving about and fun. And full of allergies. Whoa Nelly! did I have a bad case of allergies, unlike anything I've ever experienced. I think I spent most of the weekend under a haze of sinus pressure or drugged up :) So, next weekend, when we go back to Kansas City for a wedding, I'm bringing stronger stuff!

Oh no! Hope your allergies are getting better. I know how you feel, girlie! There was a special on HGTV this weekend on "The Best Homes Near Water" or something like that. It really made me want to move away from mid-america :)

What a fun fourth! And beautiful photos! I always say, "Oooo!" when your page first loads!

And it's good to hear that you like Michigan! :) There is a good school over there that my boy is interested in for gradwork.

i used to live by the shoreline in the bay area. waking up to bay area beach scenes is just awesome. i can imagine the same when living by the great lakes!

i live about a mile from the beach now. my old flat didn't take dogs :( but at least i can still walk to it.

oh, and that first image is just fab and so what i want to have.

I want to have a house like those, I love them all. Your allergies don't sound like much fun, I hope you find stronger medicine for the weekend. Are you all settled in after your move now?
: )

that top bedroom makes me swoon.

and i know what you mean about being near water. something about it. lakes are especially soothing. i like to sit near a river that runs by our house. it relaxes me every time. unless there are mosquitoes. :-)

I adore those splashes of color, like the pink chest of drawers. It all looks very happy.

We just moved by the ocean--I never thought myself "a water person"...I always liked the mountains...but that has changed! I walk by the ocean almost everyday...it has a different mood and color each time. It is truly amazing and healing.

These rooms are just gorgeous. My parents have a place by the Pacific Ocean that they've stuffed to the gills with nautical decor. Not so much nautical-inspired as nautical-overload! I think I'll send them these pics and tell them to tone it down a bit. :)
